It was either beautiful sunny hotness or rainy tornado threatening weather this week. So I picked the sunny hotness day to go out and get my giggle juice on. My partner in crime joined me and we met two others out at the Wellington. I hear two things about this place: awesome outdoor deck and really, really good food. My mission was clear this Thursday late afternoon; patio time + refreshing cocktails = happiness.
The Wellington is located on the west side of Green Bay in Ashwaubenon. And when we pulled in, it felt like pulling into this mansion driveway. A red brick wall lines the driveway at the entry point on the corner and gives it that fancy look. It made me wonder if my skirt and top were up to dress code snuff. Alas, I had nothing to worry about. At the Wellington you can wear whatever your little heart desires. Well, almost anything, keep your ass-less chaps at home people! Those are reserved for Lady Gaga and her music videos. Back to the Wellington…they'll take you as is. I like places like that, you can dress it up or down depending on your mood. It's nice.
Happy hour is from 4PM to 6PM daily and it's the double bubble variety. We ordered a glass of Merlot, a Gin and Tonic and two Lemon Drop Martinis. The Gin and Tonic packed a punch and as for the Lemon Drop Martini, it was huge and delicious. The sugar on the rim added to give you that sweet taste mixed with the tartness of the lemon. Yum. Double yum, even. The martinis were $8, the glass of wine was $6 and the GT was only $3.50. Pretty good deals if you ask me. They carry one beer on tap and it's Stella, but they do carry others in bottles, have an extensive wine list and offer every kind of liquor imaginable.
Sitting outside in the hot sun might make you melt a little but, have no fear; there are large pavilion tents to shade you and your precious drink from the large star. The tables set up on the deck are fully equipped for dinner or just some drinks. For the smaller drinking tables you have the wrought iron chairs. And for some of the dinner tables the chairs are of a softer nature. They're clad in fabric with rollers on the bottom of the legs. The deck itself is really nice; the landscape around the deck is pretty, there are flowers all around and the tables are spaced far enough apart that you're not up on top of the next table. The only thing was a little highway noise. But honestly, it's that white noise that doesn't disturb your loungin' time. I didn't even realize the white noise until it was pointed out to me. Your quiet convo won't be disrupted and they have surround sound speakers setup around the deck to add to your listening pleasure. When we first arrived, we were the first on the scene, but as it got closer and closer to dinner time more and more people showed up to have some fun in the sun. There were a group of ladies, older ladies, sitting outside and throwing back what looked to be Old Fashions like it was their job. And more and more ladies kept showing up. Apparently, it was a large group for a party of sorts. The Wellington can accommodate a single person or a large group. Although I would strongly suggest reservations for the larger parties. We definitely had fun at the Wellington and with an outdoor deck, yummy drinks and great service I'm positive we'll be back for more this summer.
I know I don't ever talk about food, but I just have to say this one thing. I had a piece of cake. What? A girl has to put fuel in her body! And just a "piece" makes it sound small, it was enormous. And probably the most amazing sugary substance I've had in a long, long time. Seriously, it was THAT good. Like melt in your mouth, that good.

Dining at the Wellington restaurant reminds me of being entertained in a hospitable, elegant home. The interior décor exudes warmth and richness. There are beautiful bookcases and woodwork which line the walls. The candles and small table lamps give off a cozy glow.
My husband and I went into the lounge area for a glass of wine before dinner. Since it was close to Christmas there were soothing classic Christmas songs playing and the room was handsomely and tastefully decorated for the season. Our waitress came and introduced herself and asked if we would like to be seated right away or if we would rather wait for a while and look over the menu at the bar. We were not in any hurry so we chose to relax for a while. After a reasonable amount of time she came and escorted us to our table in the dining room and told us the specials of the evening.

For starters we ordered the special of that evening, Smoked Sea Scallops Carpaccio for $12.00. The scallops had been smoked on the premises, were thinly sliced with olive oil and sections of fresh tangerines, lemons, whole red peppercorns, and sliced green onions scattered over the scallops. It was fabulous; very fresh and the smoked flavor with the citrus made for a great contrast. We then proceeded on to our salads. I ordered their Baby Spinach Salad for $6.99. On top of the fresh large pieces of spinach were slivered strawberries, feta cheese, orange, and a Balsamic vinaigrette - it was very refreshing. My husband ordered their Caesar Salad for $5.99. The Romaine lettuce was served in whole leaves with homemade Caesar dressing, red onions, Parmesan cheese, and fresh baked croutons. The homemade croutons and dressings are all freshly made on the premises and truly make for a savory salad. With our salads we were served a loaf of warm sliced French bread with whipped butter and a homemade seasoned olive oil. I love the chef's
mix for the olive oil dip. I noted that he adds parmesan cheese to the mix, which makes it scrumptious. For my entrée I ordered the Chef's creation of Mahi Mahi for $22.00 which they have flown in freshly from Hawaii. The presentation was a work of art; the Mahi Mahi was served with rice parchment that reminded me of an open shell. It was accompanied with citrus lentil, sliced patty squash, and glazed pecans. It was exquisite. My husband ordered their Stuffed Tenderloin for $26.99, it is filled with roasted garlic, Brie, and cognac braised pearl onions. The steak was very tender and well seasoned and browned on the outside but was pink and juicy on the inside. The filling melted in your mouth, fantastic. He had a choice of whipped Yukon potatoes, baked potato, roasted new potatoes, potato Lyonnaise, or wild rice. He chose baked and it was done perfectly.
Through out our dinner the service was excellent. Our server was very professional, knowledgeable, and did not have any type of attitude. For desert we shared the Ultimate chocolate cake for $6.00. It was large enough for two and was decadent and wonderful. Our meal was prepared by Chef Tim Theeke. His creative culinary skills and visual presentations made for a very joyous evening.
