I stopped in for dinner at the Union Hotel, which is located in the historic downtown part of East De Pere. The Union Hotel and restaurant is in a historical building that dates back to 1885. It has kept its ambiance and charm throughout all these decades. As I walked in, I was immediately greeted in a friendly manner and was seated in the main dining room and was told the specials for that evening. All the tables were immaculately and tastefully set with white linens and glassware. My server came immediately; she was very nice with a happy-to-serve-you attitude. I was brought ice water and then I placed my order. It was Green Bay Restaurant Week and the Union Hotel was offering a dinner choice which included an appetizer and dessert for $20. I chose for my appetizer, a cup of their homemade tomato bisque soup, Mahi Mahi for my entrée, and for dessert, I chose their homemade carrot cake.
I was then brought a basket of poppy seed dinner rolls with freshly soft butter patties, and a fresh relish tray that consisted of liverwurst spread, ham salad spread, and cheddar cheese spread, along with celery, carrots, and marinated peppers. The dinner rolls were awesome, they were so fresh. They had gratifying flavor. I was informed that they make their rolls in house twice on the weekends and also twice during the week. My soup was served to me next. The tomato bisque had a delicious fresh crisp tomato flavor. Soon afterward my Mahi Mahi was served. It came on a white fish style platter with an attractive presentation. My fish was a good 8oz. portion with sautéed red grapefruit sections placed on top with asparagus on the side. My Mahi Mahi was prepared spot on perfect, and tasted wonderful with the drizzled white cream sauce and the sautéed grapefruit. Then to top off my meal came my carrot cake. The cake tasted like one that your mother or grandma would bake. The cake was moist, with fresh bright shredded pieces of carrot, and the frosting was spread on a quarter inch thick. The texture was creamy with a light citrus flavor, it was delicious. My dining experience was delightful; it was so much improved from my last lunch experience at the Union Hotel that I will be looking forward to my next visit.
Restaurant Review of the Union Hotel in De Pere, WI

I stopped in for lunch at the Union Hotel, which is located in the historic downtown part of East De Pere. The Union Hotel and restaurant is in a historical building that dates back to 1885. It has kept its ambiance and charm throughout all these decades. As I walked in, the owner of the Union was very friendly and asked if I would prefer to sit in a booth or in the dining room. The booths are located to the right in a separate room and the dining area is towards the back. I chose to sit in the dining area which looked charming with its fireplace and was decorated in colors of deep red and cream. All the tables were set with white linen table cloths. The owner proceeded to clear off the extra place settings at my table and while he was doing this my waiter brought the menu and also helped clear. The waiter was formally dressed in black and white; he informed that the Union Hotel menu changes often during the year.
Their lunch menu was small with just a few choices in the categories of salads, sandwiches and main entrees. As I was reading my
menu I saw that there was only one other table of diners in the dining room and 4 booths that were occupied. For background music they were playing old big band tunes from the 1930’s and 1940’s, like Glen Miller songs. My waiter came to take my order; his manner was formal but pleasant. He asked if I would like to start out with soup and he caught himself asking me if he told me of the different soups of the day, which he had not. I decided to order the salmon salad for $9.75. As I waited, no new diners came in. Before my salad was brought to me I was given a small platter of mini poppy seed covered rolls which tasted fine. My lunch was finally served to me after a long 40 minute wait. I timed the process. My salad consisted of a moderate amount of mixed greens with 3 small pieces of marinated grilled salmon with a honey soy sauce. My salmon had a nice flavor of sweet and salty, and was still warm. The mixed greens were on the skimpy side with no added ingredients to the salad. After finishing my lunch the waiter commented on how I finished the whole salad, I told him there was not much to finish. The Union Hotel also offers full dinners in the evenings.
