I drove out to Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe, located in the Howard Suamico area. I heard they serve breakfast and lunches and was curious to try. The interior for Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe is immaculate and bright, filled with fantastic aromas from the glass cases and glass coolers that area packed with every baked delicacy that you would imagine a bakery could produce. I was amazed at the enormous selections all gorgeously presented in the cases. And to my delight, Uncle Mike’s offers complimentary samples to try. The décor is charming, and all the employees were wearing bright striped beanies with small plastic propellers; how fun. They have a few tables on both ends of the room if you choose to dine in instead of ordering carryout.
To the left of the room, is an area where you order your food. The menus are on the counter. They offer homemade soups (all msg free), homemade sandwiches made on their own breads, homemade chicken pot pies, and quiches. It was lunch time so I ordered their Golden Gate sandwich for $6.45. It consisted of Parmesan crusted sour dough
grilled bread with turkey, avocado spread, their homemade mozzarella cheese, Dijon mustard, and fresh cilantro sprinkled on top. If you order soup, coffee or hot tea they give you a soup container or cup and tell you help yourself. To the left of the order area, they have a large selection of flavored teas to choose from. There are eight different flavors of coffee set out in large thermos pots along with napkins and condiments. My sandwich was brought out to me and looked scrumptious. Well, my sandwich did not only look scrumptious, it tasted awesome. Their homemade parmesan crusted sour dough bread is dense and fresh, and was nicely grilled to a light golden crusty color. The turkey meat was sliced thick and warmed through and then spread with a layer of homemade fresh creamy avocado, layered with their homemade
mozzarella cheese that was slightly melted. Combined all together, this sandwich just bloomed in my mouth. As I was eating, one the employees heard me mention that I had never been there before, and so she brought me a free loaf of Uncle Mike’s freshly baked walnut raisin cinnamon bread that had won nationwide. She informed me that all new customers receive a free loaf, how nice is that? My sandwich comes with their in-house coleslaw, which they had not mixed up, yet so I was given a dollar in cash back, which I promptly bought my desert with. I chose a large turtle donut for $1.35. My donut tasted delicious. It was covered with chocolate, caramel, and nuts. It was a tasty ending to my lunch. Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe does not only have mouthwatering delights, but, they also have excellent customer service.
