Bar Review of the Vault in De Pere, WI

END - Wanna Be Bar, Tavern, and Pub Reviewer in Green Bay, WIBy END
    November 13, 2009
Let me begin this with a disclaimer: All opinions expressed by the writers of GreenBayNightLife.com on this website are solely the writers' opinions and do not reflect the opinions of GreenBayNightLife.com or its affiliates.

I have also corrected this review. My previous one did not meet the guidelines that GreenBayNightLife.com stands by, I did not change my opinion of the bar but I did tweak this review along with a few details in it.

It is with a heavy heart that I wrote and you will be reading a negative review. I have never written one before not because I didn't want to be tarred and feathered but because I've actually ENJOYED all the places I've reviewed. With that being said, I did only spend 15 minutes in this place. My judgement is based on those 15 minutes.

First of all, The Vault was not the hot spot we were going to go to. Friends and I went out to dinner and we wanted to grab a drink at some other place that shall remain nameless. It was all my fault, I was driving and I swore I knew how to get to where we wanted to go. Instead, I got kinda lost and as we drove by The Vault for, like, the third time, I was frustrated. The Vault would have to do. I thought this place would be kinda cool and trendy; vaults hold famous art work and bedazzled jewels. Not this place. I thought it was empty, cold, and dark. I realize this is a historic building, but nevertheless I didn't think it capitalized on that aspect.

We wanted to get one of the specials of the day, but I didn't see any table tents or signs above the bar. So I went to my fallback, which is Bud Light. I could have asked the bartender for the specials, but when I saw the Bud Light tap, I heard it call my name. The bartender was pleasant as she handed me my $3 Bud Light. The pint glasses for the Bud Light weren't just the regular pint glasses, but were more like tall slender pilsner glasses. I thought those glasses were pretty cool. We grabbed a table by the bar area so I could watch the Orlando Magic lose on TV :( Growing up in Florida made me have a soft spot for the Magic so I like to catch a game every now and again. Plus, Dwight Howard is a bad ass. The tables by the bar looked like the flimsy poker tables you had back in college. Obviously they were sturdy enough, but they did take away from the decor as they dominated the space.

The music wasn't my cup of tea, but an older crowd may enjoy a throwback to the 70's lite pop/r&b playing in the background. I know they have a full menu, but being that this is a bar review, that wasn't my object of the night. On the plus side the Vault was very clean and the girl's bathroom was spotless. They also carry a wide selection of liquors and several brands of wine. I didn't notice any posters promoting bands, but I guess I'm blind. I would give them a call if you're interested in the live music schedule.

The place was virtually empty, as in my friends and I doubled the crowd when we arrived. We drank our beers quickly and left. As I stated in the beginning, we were there only 15 minutes on a Wednesday night. I encourage anyone who agrees or disagrees with this crazy lady to write their own review or leave a Facebook comment on The Vault's GreenBayNightLife.com page stating their own opinion. Maybe it was an off night and maybe it's just not my scene. I honestly do hope that's the case, this is a tough economy and it's beyond hard work owning and running a bar even in a booming economy. I do wish nothing but the best for the owner and the staff. I'll be walking around town with a pillowcase full of feathers if someone wants to bring that tar and have a party.

CORRECTION: In a review about The Vault that was posted on Friday November 13, 2009, it was stated that "there was no set stage nor did they have any advertising anywhere promoting a schedule," the Vault has advertisements promoting live bands and they do have a stage for bands to play. GreenBayNightLife.com apologizes for the mistake.
