Restaurant Review of the Pancake Place in Green Bay, WI
By Patricia Summerfield April 13, 2010 I went to eat breakfast at The Pancake Place located on the far West side of Green Bay. It is a family owned restaurant known for their breakfasts with a huge menu to choose from. The interior is one long open rectangular room with four aisles of booths with mirrors on the back walls. The wood walls are painted in a shade of bright white with light sconce fixtures attached and on the other side of the room it is all windows. The atmosphere is very casual with bright lighting and I noticed that all the staff was moving at a quick pace.
I was greeted enthusiastically by one of the staff and I asked if they could get me some coffee; she promptly came back with a full thermos. My server then came to bring me a menu and a plastic glass of ice water. I ordered the Eggs Benedict for $7.60 with a choice of hash browns or American fries; I chose the hash browns, extra crispy. My food came within five minutes, very quick indeed. Half of my plate was piled high with hash browns but they were not done extra crispy as I had ordered. They make all their potatoes from scratch and are included with most of the breakfast dishes so they must make loads of them at a time. Even though I did not get them extra crispy they were done well and tasted delicious. My server never asked me how I would like my eggs cooked so they were fried sunny side up and very runny with some pieces of raw egg white and instead of Canadian Bacon which is customary on this dish they used a large piece of baked ham cut in half and placed it on a split English muffin. My hollandaise sauce was not a stand out winner; it did not have the quality of flavor with that hint of creamy lemon flavor that I love, but my meal still tasted good. My server was very friendly and came back a few times to check on me. The Pancake Place has large food portions for their moderate pricing.
