Bar Review Sport Corner De Pere, WI

August 20, 2009
It's a Sunday night and I'm in the mood to be social. I don't know why but I really, really enjoy going out on Sundays. Normally, I lead a fairly quiet weekend. Running errands, doing stuff around the house and simply being plain old lazy, that's what my weekend schedule is like. By the time Sunday evening rolls around I feel like I can join civilization again. I called up my girlfriend and we were off.
It was a beautiful sunny day and I wanted some sun on my face before it hides again for, like, 7 months. Still being new to the area, thank my lucky stars there's GreenBayNightLife.com. Before I left I had the foresight to click on the "outdoor seating" label and just like that there's a list of all the outdoor places this town has to offer. After a very technical analysis called Eenie Meenine Minie Moe we were on our way to Sports Corner.
Sports Corner is close to St. Norbert College which is located in Downtown West De Pere. We were driving down Broadway in De Pere when I'm having a terrible case of deja vu or I've been down this street before. Then we cruise by Montagues and it hits me that I HAVE been down this way before. Montagues was a wine bar I went to and wrote my first review on. See, I'm getting to know my way around this crazy town. A couple more turns later we arrived at our destination.
Sports Corner literally is on a corner and this place is huge. And for a Sunday night it wasn't empty. There were quite a few people sitting at the bar, but no one was sitting at any of the bar tables. My guess was that the majority of patrons would be outside enjoying the last of the day's sun. And I was right. There was a good number of people lounging outside. There was one table left and we grabbed it. Looking around there was quite a mix of people. We had some bikers to the left of us, a family of four in front of us, and an elderly couple sippin' some wine to the right of us. I ordered a Bud Light and my partner in crime ordered a glass of red wine. Yes, she ordered a glass of wine at a sports bar. But you know what, the old couple did it first... The specials for the day were $3.00 bloody marys and screwdrivers, now that's a good deal but sometimes a girl just wants a beer.
The outdoor patio is nothing fancy, but it can hold a crowd. And in this laid back atmosphere I think anything fancy would look out of place. After some good conversation and people watching we paid our
tab and walked inside to take a look around. The bar is more than decent sized and they have every liquor imaginable on display for you. To my delight, there is a spinning Jack Daniels sign hanging in a corner! My love for Mr. Daniels has never wavered, and I love seeing him showcased like that. They also have a banquet room that's large enough to hold a corporate meeting or actually any special event.
To wrap up my ramblings Sports Corner is a pretty cool sports bar with cheap beer and great daily specials. Look them up on GreenBayNightLife.com and click on their website to get the list of daily specials. Outdoor patios won't be around for too much longer, so get out there and enjoy the fresh air. Oh, and keep in mind that this is a SPORTS bar, I do not recommend the wine. It tastes like fermented Welches grape juice. But that's what you get for getting WINE at a SPORTS bar. Not that I'm ragging on my girlfriend or anything ;)
