Restaurant Review of Safari Steak House in Hobart, WI

For dinner I went to the Brown County golf course to dine in their restaurant, Safari Steak House, which is located in Hobart. The restaurant and bar lounge area is an all open concept with high vaulted ceilings and many tables for diners. On one side of the room are very large picture windows which look out on to a large outside patio and the beautiful golf course. The décor to coincide with the restaurant's name has different African pieces and animals hanging throughout the dining room. There is a beautiful fireplace located towards the side wall area. The restaurant is richly built and is very clean. It was a Saturday evening and not very busy, there was only one table of diners and 10 people at the bar.
The atmosphere felt very casual, the server's uniform for the evening constituted of very casual shorts, tennis shoes and aprons; they looked untidy. I think that style is okay during the day, serving sandwiches and snacks, but not in the evening for dinner in a steak house. Since the bar is all open to the dining area the atmosphere was again set off a casual feel. There were golfers coming in from a day of golf dressed casually. As I walked in, there was no hostess on duty, you just seat yourself. My server came
over to my table, she was friendly and gave me a menu and then asked if I would like a beverage. She then proceeded to tell me of the special for the day. I decided to order their special, which was a 14oz. prime rib for $19.99, since steaks are what they specialize in. My steak included the salad bar, Texas toast and choice of potato. The choices for potato were baked, American fries, French fries, twice baked and mash potatoes with gravy. I chose the twice baked. The salad bar offered a nice variety with many choices. They offered chili and chicken of rice soup and 2 large filets of salmon. The salmon was dry and the chicken soup and chili were run of the mill. My steak came cooked correctly and was warm. My twice baked potato was not
presented very attractively; it was scooped onto the skin with packaged sour cream and pats of butter in a side dish. My prime rib was bland in flavor and slightly chewy. The twice baked potato had a cheesy flavor with not a homemade taste. I would sum up my whole dinner experience at the Safari Steak House as mediocre.
