Restaurant Review of Parisi's Delicatessen in Green Bay, WI
By Patricia Summerfield
August 25, 2010
I went to lunch at the new delicatessen, Parisi's, which is housed in the same building as Kavarna's. The two restaurants are under the same ownership and share the same kitchen but Kavarana's serves vegetarian cuisine and is on the right side while Parisi's is on the left side. The location of these two restaurants is in the historic Broadway District on the West Side of Green Bay. The interior of the restaurant walls are bare exposed pale brick with a massive floor to ceiling window at the front with a small counter for extra seating with red plastic stools looking out to the street. The deli case and register is also at the front of the room with two cases filled with various gourmet cheeses and imported organic deli meats. There is more table seating to the left down a long wider hallway with a green plant or two.
You order and pay for your food right away and they give you a number to bring to your table. I ordered the Spicy Italian sandwich for $8.45 which had imported Mortadella (with pistachios), mild Soppressata, Belgioisoso's aged Provolone, hot peppers, spring greens tomatoes and garlic mayo. There are on one side of the counter paper napkins and condiments to bring back to your table. My sandwich was brought out to me in a red plastic basket on a paper liner with potato chips and a large dill pickle spear. The sandwich looked appetizing and had a bite to it, with a strong flavor of garlic. It was filled with a fair amount of cheese and meat placed on a very thick dense fresh baguette. It tasted fresh, but the garlic overpowered the flavors of the meat and cheese and there was more bread than anything else. The person who brought out my sandwich also stopped by later and checked to see if everything was okay. It is always nice to have another addition to Green Bay's dining scene, and Parisi's is nice but nothing that I would call special or that has the wow factor.
