Monzu Bistro is a small restaurant which offers a catering service and their specialty is in designing and making wedding cakes. They are located in the historic downtown part of Green Bay. The interior is immaculate and bright with modern contemporary décor. There are many high ceiling windows with wide ledges below that have fresh green plants placed along them. The ceilings are vaulted with track lighting, the walls are painted in a warm yellow color and there is a partial silk screen to add more of dimension for partial privacy between the tables for the diners. Next to the counter and register is a clear glass display which encloses all the beautiful pastry and bakery items. Plus high above, on a shelf, are examples of their different wedding cakes.
It was the lunch hour and quiet today. There was only one woman working out front and she said to sit anywhere. Their menu was on the table and there is also a chalk board hanging high above on the wall of their different beverage items. I asked the server how their Chicken Parmesan Panini for $8.25 was and she informed it better be good
for that is one their popular specialties. With the sandwich you have a choice of potato croquettes, pasta salad with vegetables, kettle chips or fruit. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan Panini and chose the pasta salad. My order came in a decent amount of time served on a plate with a side dish of the pasta. The Panini consisted of chicken breast, baby spinach, marinara sauce, their cheese blend, and touch of pesto all grilled onto their in house made focaccia bread. My sandwich was warm but the filling was on the skimpy side, instead of a whole chicken breast it was slices of chicken breast with a small mixture of ingredients, the sandwich mainly tasted of pesto and the bread was on the bland side. The pasta salad was made of small elbow macaroni mixed in a lightly spicy mayo sauce with a minuscule amount of shredded carrot and a scattering of fresh minced bacon pieces. The pasta salad had a good flavor but it was not what I expected by the description on their menu. For dessert I ordered a blueberry lemon cake that was on display in their case. The cake cost $5.95 and was artistically decorated. The cake was very delicious. The frosting was extremely creamy and buttery, the flavor of the cake was yellow with a very thin layer of blackberry jam and a thick layer
of lemon flavored frosting in the middle.
My server was friendly but she would disappear in the back for too long a time. She never poured me more water and it took forever to order my dessert and clear the table. It was also another long wait to finally get the bill. There was only one other customer while I was waiting and he had to ring the bell on the counter to pay for is bowl of soup. I was delighted with my cake but my service and my meal was disappointing.
