Bar Review of Knuckles Green Bay, WI

Walking Into Knuckles Sports Bar and Grill I was greeted by a doorman that asked me for my ID, a little flattered, I obliged. I cruised up to the stage and said what's up to Sly Joe who was setting up. Then I sat down at one of the many high top tables and checked out the menu. Cool, it was still early enough to catch some bar food! In the menu everything kinda followed this boxer / UFC fighter theme.
I looked up to see if the theme carried itself throughout the bar, it did, but very little, so I stuck my face back in the menu to pick my punishment. A few minutes go by and I figured out that I had to go up to the bar to ask for a beer and food. I ordered a beer, Knuckles very own on draft, "Knock Out Ale," $3.25 a pint. A light caramel color ale with a hint of nut flavor, slightly bitter but finishing light and clean. I ordered the Rope a Dope sandwich that came with seasoned fries in a basket with a pickle. The rope a dope is basically a French dip with au jus and cheese. Lets just say the Rope a Dope did not look all that, but it was awesome and gone in minutes! Great taste trumps presentation with me every time.
Knuckles had a decent size stage and by the time I was finished with the food, Sly Joe and the Smooth Operators were well into their first set and sounding great. The stage had flashing lights so everything was lit up real nice. Even the entire Knuckles interior was lit up nicely. Knuckles has a super long bar on the north wall that is made of dark wood with a big fridge as the center piece and the ends of the bar are capped off with these very tall grand father clocks, there are 4 big screen TVs above the bar. Knuckles has 4 domestic drafts and a big selection of bottled imports and domestics. Tonight they were running a special on Jack Daniels pints and Pitchers of beer. The lay out of Knuckles is long and deep with the bar to your right and three TVs, pool table, dart boards, internet jukebox and foosball table on your left. Down the middle are high tops, three TVs and music stage at the end. Knuckles is a really fun place, but I'm not sure why my standards were set a little higher when it comes to service. These days with money doing its thing and all, most clubs won't let my drink get half empty before they start poodle-ing my leg to get me a refill. Either way I don't really mind, no big deal. Besides, since I didn't spend all my liquid assets, I had enough left over to buy another Sly Joe CD.
So my conclusion on this review is that Knuckles is a good bar with good bar food. A little plain on the theme of boxing/fighting and sports, but enough to get the idea of it. If they keep bringing great bands like Sly Joe and the Smooth Operators then I will be back for sure, maybe what they could do is put the serve in service and they are golden. Knuckles makes a much needed adventurous music venue for our downtown Green Bay boardwalk area!
