Having the Noise Revolution Tour make a stop at the Riverside Ballroom in Green Bay, WI was a show that really energized the local scene. After an absolutely off the charts performance by local and upcoming melodic death metallers Atreus, the crowd was exploding with energy (See “Band Review of Atreus”). The venue was packed and the mosh pits opened up as the veteran heavy metal force that is Ill Niño took the stage. The Latin influenced metal act captivated the audience with hits from their first 3 albums. Being a fan of Ill Niño’s music but never experiencing them live before, I was very impressed with them. The Latin influences and acoustic guitar incorporation during their live set really set them apart from other heavy bands I have seen that have a similar style. The crowd was very susceptible to their music and really went off during their entire performance; it was a great set in my opinion.
Next on the bill was the deathcore band Emmure. Not being a huge deathcore fan myself, I was interested to see what this band who has been creating quite a recent buzz in the metal scene had to offer. Their use of 7 string guitars really adds the depth and heavy sound that they seem to be going for because of their constant incorporation of breakdowns in their songs. Between the abundance of the breakdowns and the use of many dissonant chords, the vocalist used an almost rap-scream style. His style was very unique and overall they were an extremely energetic band. Many of the younger audience members seemed to really pour to the front and go crazy during Emmure’s set, more than the other audience members.
However, between both Emmure and Ill Niño, they readied the crowd perfectly for the headliner, Static X, and really put on a great performance for a crowd that was very lucky to have had them make a stop in Green Bay.
