Bar Review of Gilligan's Bar & Grill in Howard, WI
June 28, 2013
Well, you can tell that summer has arrived; it’s either, brutally hot and humid or it’s storming. This is the perfect time to enjoy all the outdoor patios in and around the Green bay area when the sun is shining, and then it’s the perfect time to enjoy the regular inside bar or restaurant when it’s storming. My girlfriend and I decided that a little patio was a must and we headed towards Howard.
We were planning on hitting up Gilligan’s Bar & Grill for some happy hour drink specials. The inside was packed and so was their outside patio. We weren’t expecting a packed house in the middle of the week in the late afternoon. And when I say packed house, I mean it. Their parking lot was full so we parked along the neighborhood street directly behind Gilligan’s. Why have I never gotten the memo about Gilligan’s being such a fun party place, I’ll never know. So, this is my memo to you: Gilligan’s is fun. Gilligan’s has a lively crowd. Gilligan’s has cheap, CHEAP, drinks during happy hour. Go there.
As I said, the place was packed. We found one table left inside and grabbed it. A server quickly came over, asked us for our order, and disappeared into the crowd. She came back with a Coors Light and a Leinie’s bottle. The bill was $3.75. That’s right, 3 dollars and 75 cents for two beers. Gilligan’s bar & Grill carries a bunch of the Miller, Bud, and Coors products you know and love, along with fully stocked shelves of every kind of liquor you can imagine. The inside of Gilligan’s is like a sports bar with plenty of flat screen TVs, a dart machine, and some arcade or gambling machines. On some of the weekends there are bands that rock the night away.
We wandered outside just to take a peek, and Gilligan’s has a nice view of Duck Creek. There are more than a few tables and chairs out there, but they were all full of happy go-lucky people. We will definitely be back, ready to mix and mingle next time.

Gilligan’s Bar & Grill is located in Howard, just on the border of West Green Bay. Since I was in the area, I stopped in for a quick lunch. Gilligan’s Bar & Grill is one large open room. The bar part is directly in front when you walk in, and there are a few TVs hanging. To the right, there are tables for dining. In the dining area there is a pool table, one large flat screen TV, an unused fireplace (in the corner), and some game machines. They also have a large wooden patio off the dining area which is situated next to Duck Creek that would be great for warmer days. Hanging on the walls, they have a few black and white photos of the actors from the old comedy sitcom Gilligan’s Island, and painted on the large mirror behind the bar are the characters Marianne and Gilligan with cupid aiming a love arrow toward them.
I was quickly greeted by my server; she was extremely friendly and asked if I was ready to order. I decided on ordering the Cuban sandwich for $7.99 with French fries. As another side option, Gilligan’s also offers kettle chips. My sandwich came on a paper wrapper in a basket with my fries, alongside a dill pickle spear. The Cuban was huge. It was heavily filled with shredded pork, ham slices, two large slices of melted Swiss cheese, and sliced dill pickles, and all placed on a buttered grilled hoagie bun. My sandwich was hot and the hoagie bun was nicely grilled, the sandwich would have tasted awesome but the shredded pork, which surprised me, was spicy and extremely salty. So much so, that it overpowered the flavor of the ham and Swiss cheese. My French fries tasted very delicious, they were fresh with a nice seasoned crunch to them. Gilligan’s Bar & Grill is a friendly, comfy, casual place with comfort American foods.
