Recently a buzz has been stirring around the private practice sessions of the newest Green Bay band - the Farm League. The buzz culminated in their debut tonight at a very crowded Nakashima's Green Bay. Now if Farm League has any special quality it is their ability to make the beer go down way to easy! While meddling in the sounds of good old rock n roll laced with country and alternative. The energy and the mood Farm League imparts is laid back and jamming, if this helps they would be perfect for any tailgating party. Joel Heinen and Troy Heinz can switch up the sound and feel depending on who is up to bat as lead voalist and rhythm guitar.
Troy leans more to the singer/songwriter with a rhythmic ambition toward country and has a rich tone with just a little bit of twang in his vocals. Joel Heiden is kind of the opposite of Troy; Joel is defiantly more blues rock influenced, his vocals are a bit louder and more expressive in range. Joel's guitar is cranked and overdriven which tosses it over perfectly to Randy on the Les Paul lead guitar. Joel rocks it out in a not trying to hard style, using the slide and wah - wah he evokes a bluesy soulful sound through a warm Fender tweed amp.
Behind Joel was Aaron on the 4 piece congas, Aaron got some fast hands but what he really adds is an earthy tone and very danceable groove. Now who is on bass depends on who is playing guitar, it will be either Troy or Joel sharing the rubbery tones of the Canvas bass rig just simply adding the bottom end. Last but not least was Jeff on drums tucked back in the corner, playing a 4 piece kit I thought Jeff was solid on keeping the band on their very new legs! All night they were lacing their set with originals and hand picking some awesome covers by the Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Dr. Hook, and The Raconteurs to name a few! Not a bad first show at all and Nakashima was about as packed as I have ever seen it on a Thursday night! Check out a video from the show a Farm League original song "Stay Gone!"
