Detagoh Description
Detagoh (pronounced Day-TAH-go) was formed in Cleveland, OH by PJ Anderson and John Pacini in 1999. Relocating to Chicago, Anderson and Pacini were quickly joined by some of Chicago's top musicians helping to create an original sound that is hard to categorize. Drawing from many different styles of music including pop, rock, blues, jazz, country, Latin and even disco, Detagoh has begun to build a following in the college and young adult audience enabling them to play to packed clubs throughout the midwest

Unique band, unique name, Detagoh, (pronounced Day-TAH-go) is a meshing of three great music scenes: Detroit, Chicago, and Ohio. The various places where band members originated their music quests. Settling in Chicago, to take root, and make their mark this band has definitely done that and is branching out to infiltrate other music scenes and let their sound be heard. Right away their energy pulls you in and their interaction with the audience makes you feel a part of the magic they are creating. Two of the things that caught my attention were the wide range of instrumental talent and that there was one main vocalist. What really struck me about PJ, lead vocals, was his incredible ability to morph from artist to artist and still make the song his own. It takes a lot of talent to take cover songs and actually make variations that not only sound great but are sometimes better for it. From Tom Petty, George Michael, Police, Aretha Franklin, The Beatles to yes even a cover of Taylor Swift the song list spectrum goes on and on. Also, mixing in some of the band's original songs that had amazing harmonization. I asked John if he could give me one major influence on the band's style, writing and or music, his response, "Just one? It's funny because each member would pick a different influence. I guess if we were supposed to be influenced by one artist it would be Lester William Polsfuss (Less Paul), because without him, there wouldn't be Rock N Roll!" Detagoh has musicians with great passion for their craft and it radiates in every song. That night at Pi besides PJ there was John Pacini on guitar, Mike Jeffers on drums, Adam Krauss on bass, and Josh Mosier on keyboards/accordion. Missing that night from the band were Mike Stephen, harmonica and David Goldman, violin. The instrumental fusion was incredible; they flowed so smoothly together and their sound created a voice all its own. To me it was reminiscent of The Freddy Jones Band (for those of you who remember). But this is where musicians don't like to be pigeon-holed into one category and I totally understand. Influenced by so many great artists and with so many amazing genres to draw from it is only natural to want to capture and translate it all into your music. The thing is very few bands can do that, but Detagoh can and they do it REALLY well! They are coming back to Pi May 1st and will have the entire band. I am preparing to be blown away by the dimension a harmonica and violin will bring and I suggest you plan to come and be blown away too.
