Bar Review of Cropseys on State in Green Bay, WI

While most people in this Packer town are cheering Go Pack Go, my friends last night were cheering Go Cropseys Go. And so to Cropseys we went. We hopped in the car and drove to State Street on the West side of Green Bay. One of my friends told me that this bar has been around for quite some time, and boy was he right, the sign on the building says this bar was established in 1945. Since this place is located off of State and around the corner from the other kickass Broadway bars, I assumed it would look similar to the Broadway bars. Definitely not the case. Cropseys is a fairly large brick building complete with an outdoor beer garden. The inside reminds me a ski lodge. Being raised in Florida and living in Chicago did not allow me the opportunity to frequent ski lodges but when I walked in, that’s what popped in my head. The inside is made up of wood. Wood equals ski lodge. The U-shaped bar is located on the right side while the dart board and the two pool tables are located on the left. Loads of sport plaques adorn one of the walls, which makes me think that if you’re looking for a bar to sponsor your sports team talk to one of the guys in charge.
My little entourage of 4 sauntered up to the bar and we all ordered Bud Lights – and get this 4 of these babies throw you back only 10 bucks. Awesome. Cash is king here, but if you find yourself packed with plastic instead, there is an ATM conveniently located inside. If you find yourself in the mood for draught beer, you’re in luck; Cropseys carries more than a few goodies: Bud Light, MGD64, Busch Light, Coors Light, PBR, Shock Top, Capital, Fat Tire, Miller Lite and more. Oh yeah, there’s even Baumeister Root beer on tap too. I don’t know why, but when bars have root beer on tap it always makes me smile, I find it extremely amusing. As for liquor, Cropseys has that too. Imagine that. Name your poison and they most likely carry it.
It was close to 11PM when we arrived at our designation and the bar wasn’t dead. It wasn’t packed either, but for a random Wednesday evening, they were doing more than okay. As for the type of crowd, that’s hard to say. The crowd was completely mixed with all sorts of people. To give you an example, they have an internet jukebox. One song that played was an intense heavy metal Rammstein song while the next was Rihanna. And no, this pop princess did NOT play the Rihanna song…my girlfriend did. What can I say, she’s a top 40’s kinda chick.
