Restaurant Review of Cheesehead's in Green Bay, WI
By Patricia Summerfield
December 22, 2011
Cheesehead's is a restaurant and bar located on the west side of Green Bay in the Ashwaubenon area. As you walk in the hostess stand is directly in front of the dining room and to the right is the lounge bar area. Cheesehead's atmosphere is casual and very clean with an updated décor. The lounge area contains plenty of stools and tables and a very large bar. The salad bar and pizza buffet is located in the center of the room. There are TVs hanging from the ceiling in the bar and throughout the restaurant for easy viewing. The floors are ceramic with muted rose and grey colors which correspond with the color theme of all the large comfortable booths. Adorning all the walls were various bright colored modern art pictures and personal photos of different patrons, mostly wearing packer gear and enjoying themselves. I liked how wide the aisles were and also the very large window opening in the walls of the bar which gave the room a nice open feel.
I entered Cheesehead's at lunchtime and I was promptly acknowledged and was sat at a large booth with a menu. A server came very quickly and was extremely outgoing and friendly. She explained about the pizza buffet and answered any questions I had regarding the menu. She also offered a few suggestions of different items that I might enjoy. I decided to order the cheese fish fillet sandwich with French fries for $5.99. I requested an order of coleslaw instead of French fries and was told that would be fine. The food came after a reasonable amount of time. It was hot and looked very appetizing. The coleslaw was creamy style and was served heaping full in a large side dish. It was very fresh with a good flavor. The fish fillet was surprisingly very large and served on a fresh large lightly grilled and evenly buttered bun with a red onion slice, a tomato slice, a lettuce leaf, a dill pickle spear, a side of mayo, and a side of homemade tartar sauce. The fish sandwich tasted wonderful. The mild flavor of the cod was evident and it was not greasy. The sandwich was put together well with the fresh buttered and grilled bun and homemade tartar sauce. It made for a great lunch and was very satisfying. My server also made my lunch experience enjoyable for she truly enjoys people and her job.
