Restaurant Review of Charneski's in Green Bay, WI

Dinner Salad at Charneski's in Green Bay, WIGreen Bay Restaurant Reviews by Patricia SummerfieldBy Patricia Summerfield
    January 28, 2010
For dinner I went to dine at Charneski's, which is located in Bellevue - a residential area on the far east side of Green Bay. As I walked in, there was a definite musty smell which reminded me of entering a very old cottage. The first room you enter is in the bar lounge area with the hostess standing to the right of the door. The bar is very large and also contains small tables to the left of the room located by the front windows. To the right is the dining area with many table tops that are covered with cream colored vinyl table cloths accompanied by votive candles and condiments. The dining room can be divided into two sections with pleated vertical blinds. The walls have dark paneling of wainscoting with cream colored walls and a few pictures scattered throughout the room. It was a Tuesday at 4:30pm, which is the time they start serving, but the bar opens up at 4:00pm and I was their first customer in the dining room. The room was chilly and none of the candles had been lit yet, everything looked very clean and in this room I did not notice the musty smell.

Rib Eye Steak at Charneski's in Green Bay, WIMy server was punctual and brought me ice water and a menu; I decided to order the 12 oz. Rib Eye for $14.95 which includes soup or salad and a potato, I chose the salad and sweet potato fries for an additional $.50. My salad was brought out to me with two dinner rolls and a large slice of butter on an extra plate. The salad was blah. It was made with iceberg lettuce, one cucumber slice, one very small wedge of tomato and store bought dried croutons. The dinner rolls were white and the less expensive type. My steak was about 1/4 to 3/8 inch thick and it was done correctly; it had a nice grilled and juicy flavor. The sweet potato fries were crispy and not greasy with a little powdered sugar sprinkled on top. The server was nice and attentive but never offered me an option for dessert. Charneski's has a supper club atmosphere with a regular clientele.
