Bar Review of Black Boot in De Pere, WI

When I’m bouncing around De Pere there is this new place that keeps grabbing my attention. At first I kept missing it because there wasn’t a sign or overhang saying Black Boot, but I still knew it was there. How did I know there was a new treasure in De Pere? I know things. This is why I’m telling you, so now YOU know things. Currently, they have a sign up in their window, so now you REALLY know things.
I had some friends coming over later on a Tuesday night, but I wanted to check out Black Boot first before they arrived. I grabbed a
partner in crime and we went on our merry way. We arrived at Black Boot a little after 8PM and there were a few people in the joint. This place is on the smaller side but it has more than enough room for a crowd. When you walk in you will notice the bar part on the right side and a lounge-y type place on the left, along with hi-top tables. There are regular sized tables throughout Black Boot. We opted to get cozy at the bar. Black Boot offers a full menu of dinner and drinks. This place is quickly becoming known as a wine bar. While I like wine, a lot actually, I was simply not in the mood for it. Call me lame. I ordered a Coors Light. But I did tap the Rockies with class; the bartender brought me a fancy glass to pour my bubbly in. At least I didn’t look goofy, right?! A
domestic beer will cost you $3.50. Yes, Black Boot has other Miller, Bud and Coors products; they also carry more unique beers such as Dragon’s Milk. I’ve been hearing so much about this particular beer as of late and I don’t know a lot of places that have it on hand. As I stated before, this place is becoming known as a wine bar, and they do have a wine menu for you to peruse. There’s a good selection of reds, whites and even some sparkling wines. As for the liquor department, they may not have the largest assortment, but they certainly have what you need for that gin and tonic or the like.
Black Boot is quite cozy, there was soft jazz music playing in the background and they have exposed brick walls. There are giant, practically floor to ceiling windows giving you a direct view of Broadway. In the back corner there is a piano and a stage area for live music nights. I would give them a call to see what those evenings are. Placed about the wine bar are black boots. Very clever. Also, something to note is the large black boot imprinted on the back brick wall. During some renovations, the plaster covering that wall was taken down and that’s what they found, hence the name. Or so I was told. The building next to Black Boot was originally a boot factory, you know, way back in the day. My, how De Pere has changed.
