Heard of this place several mths ago from a friend who said it was very good. Stopped in and loved everything about the place. The smoke smell automatically tells you you've found the real deal. We were undecided on where to eat so I called to get their address since it has changed to 2330 S. Oneida St., and due to how friendly the employee was he made up my mind for me. The food was AMAZING! For a half rack of baby back ribs w 2 sides, and a full rack of regular (KC) ribs w 2 sides and a drink was only $34. Let me be clear on the amount of meat that was on these ribs. The baby back had an inch+ thickness of meat on them, which is A LOT for baby backs, I could only eat half of them (1/4 rack). My fiances full rack of spare ribs was huge, he can eat a lot and he took home half of his fries and 1/3 rack. Their prices are very reasonable. Even the cole slaw was perfect, and I am ridiculiously picky w bbq and slaw! I have nothing bad to say about this place, loved the food and the staff were incredibly friendly. Thanks to the owner for sharing this place and having staff who are genuinely a pleasure to do business with :) We will definitly be back.

If you know KC bar-b-que, you will love Bates City. This is the authentic stuff -- the owner, who I talked to, is from KC and started his restaurant in Appleton but moved up to Green Bay recently. I loved the atmosphere, which is country down home, booths, paper towels on the tables, add your own sauce which is KC style. They also have a full bar which I like with my bbq.
I had the baby back ribs which were a great price for more ribs than I could eat. Lots of good juicy meat and the fries were GREAT! And I know my fries -- these are hand cut, thin, just crunchy enough. My friend had the pulled pork sandwich which was great, too. You have to add your own sauce so you get what you want. No fat like some big chain restaurants I won't mention! Anyway, will go there again when I get the hankering for real KC bar-b-que which just doesn't come along very often in the northern U.S. states.

Recommend getting the 'sliders' with each different type of meat; by far favorite was the chicken. Least favorite: pulled pork; it was dry and lacked flavor. All sides are good; fries were a little heavy on the salt. The serve yourself style works for the restaurant.
