Restaurant Review of Bates City Barbque in Suamico, WI

For lunch I went to try a new restaurant, Bates Barbque - that is how they spell it, which is located in Howard. The restaurant is very open and decorated with a country theme; it has very high exposed ceilings, large picture windows, different antique signs, and old photographs from the past that hang on the walls. For seating there are booths, high top tables, and new large picnic tables; towards the back is a small bar, and on each table is a roll of paper toweling set on a piece of tree trunk with condiments of plastic squeeze bottles of ketchup and extra barbeque sauce. As you walk in there is a large window with their whole menu printed above. This is where you place and pay for your order, you then help yourself in getting your beverage, plastic utensils, napkins, and there are trays filled with two kinds of pickle slices, chopped red onion, and jalapenos. There is another large window where you pick up your order but the server brought out my sandwich to my table while I was getting my iced tea, maybe because I was the only customer at the time. The restaurant is immaculate and to add to the country atmosphere country music was playing in the background.
I ordered their barbeque pulled pork sandwich and you had a choice of one side with it, homemade French fries, baked beans, or coleslaw for $4.69. I ordered the coleslaw. My sandwich was not very succulent, it was a little dry with a strong flavor of smoke and the sauce had more of sweet flavor. In fact I could still taste the smoke flavor hours after my lunch. The bun was fresh, but had a bland taste; put the whole thing together and it just did not have a magic combination. The coleslaw was served in a small plastic container, and the shredded cabbage was mixed in a heavy mayo sauce, it was fresh and did have a good flavor.
