Bar Review of the Avenue Bar in Green Bay, WI

Another week, another pub crawl night! It was late Saturday night and my party-hopping-lovin' girlfriend dragged me to a few places. Okay, so I shouldn't say dragged when I was more than down for the ride. She had a few places mapped out but we only made it to one. We were having such a good time we forgot all about seeking out a better hot spot for the night. Our first and only stop was Avenue Bar on Velp, not too far from the intersection with Military Ave.
Driving to this place, you can't miss it. Honestly you can't. They have one of those humungous blown up turkeys sitting right out in their lot. I would like to say it's up for Thanksgiving, but if that bird was up year round, well, that would be awesome. Avenue Bar looks like it was an old house. And it's kinda a cute house from the outside. I was told by someone that this used to be JR's bar, but it's actually the former bar Boehmers. I was also told that this bar was a hardcore biker bar. What that meant, I wasn't sure, but once I got inside and looked around, these so called hardcore bikers were just hardcore party people having a blast and dancing around to polka music. Very "rough and tumble" if you ask me. While it may be a biker bar anyone would fit right on in. Even my Grandma. She thinks Polka music is a gas.
I ordered a vodka soda and my girlfriend got a Bacardi seltzer. The drinks arrived in pint glasses and were $4 apiece. It was kinda hard to get a decent look at the decor because the place was packed. But I did see a pool table and dart board in the mix. And from what I did see there were beer posters and neon signs about the place. The bar itself was fairly large. It curved around a wall and a half and had bubbles (extra counter space) added to the curvy parts to create more seating encompassing the drinkery part. Everyone there was super friendly; bartenders and patrons alike. With all the distractions, pleasant distractions, of the crazy music, the people and the lively atmosphere, one drink quickly turned into two, which then turned into three. Early Sunday can sneak up on a girl when she's having a good time Saturday night.
