Bar Review of The Attic in Green Bay, WI
By END
January 20, 2011
For this week's adventure, I just couldn't get in the mood. I know, I have such a rough life deciding between beer, liquor, or wine for my afternoon/evening fun. Woe is me. Since a fermented beverage didn't seem to jazz me up, I decided to meet a friend of mine for hot non-alcoholic drinks. He thought The Attic would be the perfect place. We ventured to the east side of Green Bay and entered into what I initially thought looked like a used book store. I was sorta right AND sorta wrong. The Attic is difficult to label since it's a little bit of several things. It is a used book store. It's also a coffee and tea shop with a few pastries on the side. They also have local musicians on certain nights (check the event calendar) and there are board games to play to keep your mind sharp. I ordered an espresso macchiato for 2 bucks. What's pretty cool about The Attic and its java and brew selection is that you have more than a few choices for organic coffee and teas. And the coffee is Fair Trade Certified. Starbucks who?
There were people scattered inside and everyone seemed to be doing something different. I was totally destroying my friend at chess while other people read the books from the shelves, did homework, quietly talked, played checkers or simply walked around looking at the some of the local artwork on one wall and soaking up the relaxed atmosphere. What I thought was neat about the checkers and chess tables were just that – they were actual table tops with huge pieces to play with. I don't know why but that sure tickled my fancy to play with chess pieces that could pass for salt and pepper shakers. As for the local artwork that I mentioned before; that's another cool point for this place. How awesome would it be to be an artist and to have some of your hard work displayed for the town to see? If you are an artist, look on their website, they're looking to fill up one of the walls with inspirational ink.
It was a nice and quiet night to lounge around with a friend. I'll have to come back for one of the live music nights.
