Allouez Cafe Description
Allouez Cafe is a family friendly restaurant in Green Bay which has been open for over 30 years and many patrons have been coming in for almost as long. The food, service, and slower pace keeps loyal customers coming back. The cafe is known for homemade desserts, fresh coffee, dinner specials, and daily fresh baked bread - over 48 loaves a day of white, wheat, and raisin. In 2008 Allouez Cafe decided to go smoke free and install new carpet and a fresh coat of paint at the same time. Little else has changed at the cafe since its opening. Breakfast is served all day and continues to be one of the most popular items. Allouez Cafe offers low-fat dressings, sugar and butter substitutes as well as decaf coffee. Fish, baked chicken, meatloaf, tuna salad, and chicken salad are staples a this cafe.

Restaurant Review of Allouez Cafe in Green Bay, WI

By Patricia Summerfield
June 2, 2011
I was in the mood for some traditional home-style cooked food, so I chose to eat at the Allouez Café, which is located on the border of east Green Bay. The restaurant is L shaped which allows for seating in comfy booths, around large table tops, and at a nice diner counter. Allouez Café has a casual and comfortable atmosphere which also offers a large menu with a traditional style of cooking and their breakfasts are served all day long. As you walk in there is a board on an easel which lists the specials for that day.
The server came to wait on me immediately with a friendly manner and explained the specials of the day. I decided on ordering their homemade meatloaf for $9.25 which includes a hot vegetable or coleslaw, a slice of their homemade bread, and a choice of potatoes; hash browns, mashed, crispy French fries, or potato salad. I asked if I could have the hot vegetable in place of the potato and instead, if I could substitute them for coleslaw and I was informed that it was no problem. I also ordered a hot cup of green tea for$1.55 and for dessert a slice of their homemade blueberry crisp pie a la mode for $4.10.
The hot tea was served first in a ceramic tea pot with a slice of bread, two butter containers, and the side of coleslaw. The water for tea was steaming hot, the coleslaw was fresh and creamy, and the bread was a large fresh slice that had that specific homemade flavor. The meatloaf paired with the hot vegetable came next. The meatloaf was a very large and thick slice smothered with thick brown gravy and the vegetable that day was sliced carrots which were fork tender. The meatloaf was dense with a good savory flavor and the gravy was smooth in texture and paired nicely with the meatloaf. The slice of blueberry pie arrived to finish off my meal, it was thick and was chock full of blueberry filling. The pie was served with two scoops of vanilla ice cream and was delicious. The server throughout the meal was very attentive and I was never in need of anything. Allouez Café definitely satisfied my hunger for some good quality comfort food.
