Bar Review of the Abbey in De Pere, WI

"Here's to Sister END. Sister END, Sister END, Here's to Sister END who's with us tonight. She's happy, she's jolly, she's messed up by golly! So drink..." Whoa, my mama might read this, but you get the idea. The Abbey Bar brought me back to my Sorority Days where you sing to your best friend as she chugs whatever is in her pint glass. The moment I stepped inside I was blasted back in time where cheap beer flowed and late night shuffle board matches ruled my existence in college. That, and a proper education of course. Even the decor of the place looked like a frat boys room. Beer posters, beer signs and beer logo mirrors cover the walls. And when I say cover I mean just that, there is no plain, boring wall space in sight. They also have a few arcade games lining the walls, and a shuffle board table, which I love but I am TERRIBLE at playing.
Now let's move on to the important stuff. They offer a full liquor bar with 30 beers on tap! Let me repeat that, 30 beers on tap! I was thrilled to see such a variety. So what do I choose? Mich Ultra. Hey, I'm a girl who is a connoisser of the lite beers, plus I have never seen Mich Ultra on tap. For those of you who like the taste of real beer they also have Fosters, Sierra Nevada, PBR, Leinenkugel, Guiness, Smithwicks, Hacker Phsorr and lots of others. The domestics run about $3 a pint and the import and micro brews are $3.75. Not a bad price at all, plus they have drink specials every night of the week. Go on a Thursday and get Long Island Iced Tea for $3.50. In the bar I worked at, in the fine city of Chicago, a Long Island would run you $9. Keep in mind we did not have these "drink specials" Green Bay has. So if this is what the GB calls a drink special, then ALL your drinks are special.
I'm not one for drinking and eating at the same time, but food is served at The Abbey. They offer lunch and dinner with typical American Bar Food. You know, pizza, burgers, appys, and salads. And not to be outdone with drink specials they have food specials to match. Check out their website to get the low down on what nights are cheap. After I was happy and buzzed I wandered around. I thought this was just a one story place, but they have an upstairs and an outdoor patio! If the main floor gets too rowdy or crowded for you, hop upstairs to their lounge part. It's quieter and they have comfy seats. Too lazy to walk back downstairs and grab a drink? Not a problem, there is a second bar up there too. This place is huge! If you are looking for a good time and cheap drinks I would keep The Abbey Bar in mind. There is music, food, drinks, games, and a cool crowd. For me, that's the perfect combo for a fun night.
