Restaurant Review of the Black Cat Cafe in Green Bay, WI

I had lunch at the Black Cat Cafe which is located on the Green Bay’s west side in the historic Broadway district. The interior is that of an eclectic coffee house. The walls are all painted in different bright colors and there are two large front windows which are located on both sides of the restaurant, one side has a bar area with extra tables for dining and on the other side by the front window is a sitting area with a large sofa and chairs. There are no booths but they have many tables to choose from with cat figurines holding hold sugar packets and salt and pepper condiments. The interior was clean and the lighting was dim for all the light fixtures were covered with different colored paper lantern coverings.

Mushrooms at Black Cat Cafe in Green Bay, WIMy server was friendly and knowledgeable about the different choices off the menu. For starters I ordered the Mushroom Caps for $5.95 and then the Muffaletta sandwich, which is a New Orleans favorite, with their homemade chips for $6.95. The mushrooms came out piping hot with melted mozzarella cheese on top. They were stuffed with a mixture of crabmeat, shrimp, cream cheese, and Italian seasonings. My mushroom caps were very enjoyable; the blend of the seasonings had a mild flavor, which did not dominate the flavor of the seafood and cream cheese. My sandwich was very large with a nice portion of their homemade potato chips and a pickle spear on the side. The sandwich consisted of ham, Genoa salami, and provolone cheese with olive relish on top. The sandwich came on a white bun which was dense and fresh with three thick slices of meat and provolone cheese. Muffaletta at Black Cat Cafe in Green Bay, WIThe sandwich was warm and with the cheese melted it tasted wonderful, the ham had a nice sweet flavor and was a nice accompaniment with the olive mixture and salami. It was a sandwich you can sink your teeth in. The homemade potato chips were delicious, fresh and crispy, not greasy or overdone. I will have to go back next time and try one of the evening specials of Prime Rib that the Black Cat Cafe offers.

Bar Review of White Dog Roadhouse/Blackcat Cafe Green Bay, WI

END - Wanna Be Bar, Tavern, and Pub Reviewer in Green Bay, WIBy END
    February 24, 2010
Why is it when I have a major house project to do my girlfriends want to go out and party? The choices were putting together 19 cabinets so they can be installed the next day or hanging out at White Dog Roadhouse for some Sunday tunes with Muddy Udders? I was leaning towards the cabinets, just so I can finally be finished with 'em until the same girlfriend who dragged escorted me to Baba Louie's sweet talked her way into changing my mind. I mean, she really twisted my rubber arms on this one.

The low down on White Dog Roadhouse/Black Cat Cafe is this – It's located in the Historic Broadway District. The Black Cat side is more of a cafe eating side that is open for breakfast and lunch hours. The White Dog side is more of a bar and hangout room with a decent size stage area for bands. Muddy Udders was playing and they are pretty awesome. Check out Terry's review on them here. Some people have said this place was a biker bar of sorts. I guess you could kinda say that but I saw a blend of all types of crowds.

I got there a little late, because I'm not a complete slacker, and the place was packed. The band started at 2PM and it was close to 4. The bar side is on the left and the café is on the right. EVERYONE was on the left. The band was jammin', some people were dancin' and the rest were drinkin'. My friends were sitting around the bar towards the front; perfect seats for watching the band. Since I arrived later than most of my friends a beer just wouldn't do. They were way ahead of me and I needed to catch up. Tall vodka soda it was. Their tall mixers run $4.50. They only had one beer on tap, it was a Steam Beer but the place was packed and I couldn't get a good look. Beer drinkers, don't fear, White Dog had tons of bottle beer; my friends were drinking PBR's, Miller Lite, Bud and Bud Lights. There are more choices than that too. White Dog also had a full liquor bar which we enjoyed by having rounds of shot later. What? I said I had to catch up...

The actual bar is quite big. It's like an oval shaped rectangle. Makes perfect sense, right? There are seats around ¾ of the bar and a couple more along the side wall. In the back part I saw a couple arcade games. After the band wrapped up I was kinda expecting a mass exodus. But for the most part, everyone was having a great time and only a few hit the road.

White Dog Roadhouse seemed like a cool place to sit back and soak up the atmosphere or listen to bands. In the Summertime I know they offer outside patio seating. Only a few more months! Oh yeah, sorry about the no pics. It seriously would have been of the people and not the place itself. And you don't want me or my drunken friends in any pictures :)
