Bar Review of St. Brendan's in Green Bay, WI

Rain. Sun. Rain rain rain, some sun. There was a small window of opportunity to enjoy the afternoon sun and I didn't want to waste it. I was told about a bar that has a beautiful decorated interior, fantastic food, mellow atmosphere, outdoor deck and if you drink too much they have some suites available for you to sleep it off in. (Although, that's not exactly why they have rooms for you to rent.) I'm talking about St. Brendan's.

St. Brendan's Inn is located downtown just off Washington Street in a building that looks like it belongs somewhere else. Somewhere else as in, oh I don't know, Ireland maybe. You can't miss it. St. Brendan's is a restaurant, bar, meeting hall, place for live music and an inn all wrapped into one. My girlfriend and I went on a quiet night when we thought the clouds would stay away long enough for us to enjoy a drink on their outdoor patio. The patio is not connected to the bar part, so if you go outside make sure you let a server or bartender know if you want drinks. St. Brendan's is really pretty on the inside. Yes, I know bars aren't pretty but you know what I mean. It's all dark wood and the set up for the actual bar is really really pretty. They have 15 beers on tap. And it's not just Coors Light, Bud Lights, there are mostly imports. They have Strong Bow, Spotted Cow, Guinness, Carlsberg, Chimay, Smithwicks, Tetley's, New Castle, Amstel Light and more. If you want a good variety of imports, St. Brendan's is the place for you. They also carry bottled beer of the domestic kind, wine, and have a full liquor bar. From personal experience if you order a glass of wine, be prepared for a big pour. It was awesome; St. Brendan's is certainly not shy about giving you a full glass. After we got our wine, we wandered to their outdoor deck. You have a nice view of the Fox River at any table you choose. And there are plenty of tables and chairs outside that you can pick from. At night there are these lantern type lights that surround the wooden railing of the deck and when they glow it creates this warm atmosphere that's really enjoyable.

We decided to leave when the clouds started rolling in were darker than black. We would have stayed for more but we wanted to beat the rain. We left just in the knick of time too. I swear I saw cats and dogs falling form the sky. But we'll be back to St. Brendan's for sure; it's a laid back place with good wine, beers and a fabulous inside bar and an outdoor deck. Maybe on a live music night?

Irish Restaurant Review of St Brendans Green Bay WI

I went to St Brendans Inn for dinner and as I walked in I felt transported to Ireland without the expense of a plane ticket. The décor is dark woods with hanging stained glass light fixtures, but the focal point of the restaurant is the set of gorgeous high stained glass windows that surround the dining area. Also on display is a hand painted picture of St. Brendan with a prayer and various Irish sayings on the walls. Situated back in the corner is a charming cozy sitting area with a real wood burning fireplace. They have a long bar and lounge area with small tables and a wooden bench, which is the only designated place where smoking is allowed. They have a full bar which also features 14 imported tap beers.

Tonight the entertainment was a musician from Ireland, Jeff Ward, who was singing a variety of Irish folk songs and working the crowd into a festive mood. I decided to order their Irish fare off the menu, I started with a pint of Guinness, which was served with a design of a shamrock on top of the foam, how fun! For my dinner I ordered a cup of Irish root soup for $2.50 and their Irish stew for $11.95. My soup consisted of pureed sweet potatoes, leeks, carrots and garlic; it also was served with a design of a shamrock made with sour cream on top. The soup was thick and deliciously flavored, perfect for the cold night. My Irish stew was full of very tender pieces of sirloin, rutabaga, turnip, seasoned vegetables with a perfect blend of seasonings. On top of the stew was a mound of creamy mash potatoes with slices of homemade Irish brown bread with Kerrygold Irish butter on the side. The service from the bartenders, to the hostess, and the waitress were all very welcoming and they were all on top of things. The combination of the gay atmosphere and the hearty, wholesome, delectable meal made for a truly delightful evening.
