Bar Review of Pump Room in Green Bay, WI

I ran into an old friend on a random Friday night. We had tons of catching up to do, so where did we go in order to get our chat on? The Pump Room, that’s where. The Pump Room is located in the Allouez area off of Webster Street. We were both supposed to meet friends at other places but we thought the Pump Room is sorta in the middle of where we both needed to be. And actually, as it turned out, our friends ended up coming to us instead. Niiiice.
When my friend first suggested the Pump Room I had visions of this loud, dirty small bar running through my mind, but my friend assured me I was crazy, that the Pump Room is quite to opposite. He was right. We made our grand entrance at around 11PM or so and we were the only ones there, which was perfect because we got front row seats at the bar and the total attention of the kickass bartender.
This place may look small on the outside but it’s not small at all. When you walk in, the long slender bar is directly in front of you with plenty of seats. The bar runs to about the middle of the room. On the opposite side of the outer wall there are hi-top tables. If you walk towards the back of the joint you see another whole room to the left. That’s where the pool table is along with some more bar space. Also, I should mention that the place was super tidy and clean. I really don’t know why I thought it would be dirty, so shame on me.
My friend and I ordered some cocktails. He got a CC and Sour and I got a Vodka Soda. They were strong and cheap -- the best kind! The Pump Room offers beer and a full liquor bar for refreshments. In bottles they carry the usual Miller, Coors and Bud products as well as Leinies. For draught you have Spotted Cow, Blue Moon, Bud, Shiner Bock and a few others. One of my girlfriends got excited over the Shiner Bock; apparently it’s not that common in Green Bay. After we got settled in and were talking the night away that’s when I realized that it was quiet. I mean really quiet. If you want some tunes playing they have an internet jukebox. So I popped in a few bucks and was playing all the bad Pop music I could find. Hey, there was no one else in there to hear my cringe worthy guilty pleasure music, I would have been much more kind if there were people around. Well, maybe not.
Towards the end of the night, more people showed up and so did our friends. The bar got pretty full and the music stayed pretty bad, thanks to me. Whoops.
