Luna Cafe & Roastery Description

Since August 2000, Luna Coffee has been serving fresh-roasted coffee in De Pere, Wisconsin. The café, once a turn-of-the-century horse harness maker's shop, offers a cozy atmosphere that celebrates both the history of the building, with hardwood floors and exposed brick walls, and the vibrant arts scene of today, as they display artwork of some of the area's best photographers, painters, and other artists. Luna Cafe is also proud to serve fair trade coffee products.

Bar Review of Luna Cafe in De Pere, WI

END - Wanna Be Bar, Tavern, and Pub Reviewer in Green Bay, WIBy END
Luna Cafe in De Pere, WIJanuary 22, 2010
Okay, so this week's bar review is going to be a little bit different. As in, it's not a bar. It's a coffee shop. Not all of my girlfriends like to go out and party it up till the wee morning hours. Some like to sip on coffee or tea and hang out while chit chatting about their day. I'm not a coffee kinda girl but I do like to chit chat. I picked up my coffee loving friend and we drove to the west side of De Pere.

Luna Cafe is tucked in between all the fun loving bars I would usually be driving to. One thing on the plus side, there is street parking lining the roadway. It's says for 2 hours or less... so keep track of your time. Immediately upon entering Luna Cafe the smell of coffee rushes at you. I'm not a fan of coffee in general but the smell of roasted beans is like nirvana. It's a good thing I'm at the age where I don't shove every yummy smelling thing in my nose only to get it stuck. What? Like you never did such a thing when you were a kid? Apart from the heavenly smell, Luna Cafe has exposed brick walls and what looks to be local artists paintings and photos covering the brick. I like it when an establishment supports local artists. It's a sort of kinship you don't see too often. I know a few other places do this, with Montague’s being one of them. There are mostly tables and chairs for your lounging convenience. There are two leather type couches but those are always taken first. My girlfriend ordered an espresso machhiato and I got a decaf Sumatran. (Caffeine and I do not play nice together). They were under $3 each. Mine tasted hot and on the earthy side. Hers tasted, well it tasted, too bitter for my liking. I'm also not hardcore about coffee/espresso like she is. However, when I was in Italy for a couple months I had the decaf espresso macchiato from time to time. Whatever Italians do to their hot beverages made from beans of a plant, I'll never know, but I've never had one that tasted the same here in the States. If hot coffee is not what you're looking for, they do have other choices. They have iced coffees, and several types of teas, sodas, juices, smoothies, and shakes. A thing to point out about their coffee is, they have a few choices for organic and fair trade coffee beans. I see more and more coffee houses doing that nowadays.

The atmosphere in Luna Cafe is pretty relaxing. They have newspapers there for you to purchase, free wi-fi, board games and a small shop of trinkets and whatnot for you to purchase. Mostly it seemed people brought their own magazines or a friend to keep them company. St. Norbert's is around the corner too; this would be a great place to write a paper or study if you needed to get out of the house. I enjoy people watching and this cafe is a great place for just that. Hanging out at Luna Cafe made it a nice afternoon. Good company, coffee, and atmosphere.
