Restaurant Review of Home Town Cafe in Green Bay, WI

I went for dinner to the Home Town Café restaurant which is located on the West side of Green Bay. It is a very casual and small restaurant with the main colors of dark greens and maroons. The décor is country style with loads of bric-a-brac of kitchen ware and cookery from decades past. It’s piled high on different levels of shelves in most of the windows and also overloaded on large shelves as you walk in by the front area. In the front there is also a small area with a lot of beads and jewelry for sale. To the right of the door is a very clean large aquarium with many large real fish. There are also colorful small glass fish floating inside the tank with fish line and bobbers holding them in place.
The hostess greeted us and was about to seat us when she had to keep ringing up and checking out various customer that were leaving; finally after a while a waitress noticed me and signaled for me to sit down in a booth and then brought me a menu. Their menu is very large with breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Breakfast is served all day long. I decided to order the Ribs and Kraut for $10.49. Its country style ribs smothered with sauerkraut and a choice of potato, which is off Home Town Café’s dinner menu. The choice of potatoes were French fries, mashed with gravy, baked, seasoned potato wedges, hash browns, or American fries. I chose the mashed with gravy. Also included with the meal is a cup of soup, one dinner roll, and the salad bar. The salad bar contained ice berg lettuce with lots of different toppings, a pasta salad and a potato salad. The soup of the day was homemade chicken with rice. The soup had large pieces of white meat, carrots, and kernels of corn and rice. The soup had a good flavor and was not overly salty, and they did not go too heavy on the rice. My ribs and kraut came very quickly, the meat was boneless and served in chunks and was fork tender. The sauerkraut was on the sweet side, baked well done, but the whole meal was not very flavorful. The mashed potatoes were also a big disappointment. The potatoes were instant as was the gravy and it had very bland tasting. My service throughout the meal was very attentive; my server came back many times to check to see if I needed anything else. As I was checking out by the register, I noticed they have a clear case filled with giant cookies and various homemade pies which looked delicious. They were for sale at reasonable prices.
