Restaurant Review of Great Lakes Sandwich Company in Green Bay, WI

I ate lunch at Great Lakes Sandwich Company which is located on the East side of Green Bay and is housed in the East Town Mall. The interior is somewhat gloomy but they do have long hanging overhead lighting above each table. There is hard rock playing quietly from a radio station and on all the tables and booths they offer stacks of magazines and reading material to look at. There are many different posters and signs hanging on the walls and a small area for relaxing containing a small sofa and chairs. At the counter there are paper menus to look at and above the counter there is a chalk board with their menu written in chalk. I was surprised at what a large menu they have, like pasta dinners, subs, variety of soups, hot dogs, salads and they also offer beer and fruit smoothies. There is also a soda machine and a cooler case containing water and Snapple beverages and to the right of the register is another counter with a few stools where you can pick out from the many flavors of ice cream and sit to eat it there.
Since they are called Great Lakes Sandwich, I decided to order one of their sandwiches. I chose the Steak Melt for $5.69 and a Raspberry Smoothie for $2.00. You order and pay at the counter and they will bring your order out to you. You can get your own beverage and napkins. My sandwich was brought to me in a plastic basket with a half cut dill pickle spear, they could not even spare the whole slice. And if you want chips you have to buy a bag. My sandwich was made on dark rye toasted bread which was lightly buttered with thin slices of steak meat, some melted Swiss cheese and fried onions and mushrooms. I was very surprised and disappointed in the sandwich. The one thing that came to my mind was like that old commercial of the old woman saying “Where is the Beef”? Not only was the steak meat on the slightly chewy side but there could not have been more than 2 ounces of the meat, plus not much cheese or onions and mushrooms; extremely skimpy on all the ingredients.
My smoothie looked delicious with a large topping of whipped cream on top but it was deceiving for there was too much crushed ice and not enough raspberry liquid. And to top off the meal I found a black hair in my food. I saw the woman who was preparing and making all the food, for she was the only one back in the kitchen. She had her hair up but did not have a hairnet on. My lunch experience at Great Lakes Sandwich was a very unappetizing one.
