River Pub is a restaurant that is in the hotel Clarion which is located in downtown Green Bay. The restaurant is very large and the décor is designed in a nautical theme with the main colors of royal blue with gold accents. They have an excellent view of the Fox River because of the many floor to ceiling windows that run along one side of the restaurant. The River Pub is very open; a large bar with many tables is on the left side of the room and the main dining area is to the right. There is a hostess stand with a register to your immediate left as soon as you walk into the room and a small chalkboard on a stand with the specials of that day.
It was the lunch hour and the hostess sat me at a table with a menu. My server soon came over and asked if I would like anything to drink, after she brought me my glass of ice tea she was ready to take my lunch order. The server was not at all informative about the lunch specials, for I had to ask her about their lunch buffet, the price of the buffet and what the soups of the day were; she was just ready to take my order. I decided to order off the menu. The buffet looked very good with many different food selections for only $5.00 but I did not want such a large lunch. I ordered the Country Crusted Pork Chop for $6.95. It is a hand breaded center cut pork chop open faced and served with steamed vegetables and baby red potatoes. While I waited for my food I saw that the interior of the River Pub had a lot of wear and tear to it. The off white blinds on the windows were stained and the wood work was extremely worn looking. It looked clean but it definitely was in need of major updating.
My food was served to me and looked very appetizing. My pork chop was large with a good portion of fresh broccoli and roasted baby red potatoes next to it. My pork chop was delicious, the breading was very flavorsome and the meat was moist and tender. The broccoli was fresh and warm, mixed with a light butter sauce. The baby reds were cut into nice quarter size pieces and were freshly roasted to a nice brown with a slightly crisp texture. River Pub’s food portion and quality exceeded my expectations for the price.

What a beautiful day yesterday! I was hanging out with some girlfriends at my house; we were sitting on my patio sippin' on some gin and juice, err, wine spritzers when it was suggested we make our way over to the River Room. I was told their outdoor patio is beautiful and usually on the quiet side. Quiet is always good when you're in the mood for some convo. Or as I like to call it, gossip.
The River Room is located in the Holiday Inn Hotel in the Downtown neighborhood. When we got there the patio was empty and half way set up. I guess they're not ready for the summer season yet. But if you grab your drinks at the inside bar/restaurant they will let you go outside and lounge. Nice, huh? On tap the River Room has Bud Light and Miller Lite, but in bottles they have a wider selection with the Lienie's line, New Castle, Corona, Coors Light, New Glarus, Bud and Miller products. Wine and full liquor bar are also available to quench your thirst. We ordered a gin and tonic, and two double Knob Creeks. Did I surprise you with not getting a Bud Light?? See how hardcore I can be with Knob Creek? I know you can't see me but I'm puffing out my chest and flexing my arm muscles. My very, very little arm muscles. My girlfriend and I were actually in the mood for some scotch but the Oban they had was $7 pour... so this Bourbon would do the job instead. The bill came to $19.50. And I know our double Knob Creeks were $8 apiece. And I was more than okay with dishing out ocho dolares for a half a cup of jungle juice.
We walked outside and talked a little bit with people wandering on the Fox River Trail.
You have a great view of the water and the busy trail from their patio. It's a perfect place to people watch and/or just enjoy the scene. There were too many clouds in the way to see the sun set but maybe next time we'll get an awesome view of it. We then sat at one of the wrought iron table and chairs. There are more than enough chairs and tables outside to accommodate a number of people. Some of the tables are even covered by a tent like shield that will help keep you cool on those extra hot days. The chairs are more on the uncomfortable side but then the jungle juice kicks in and you don't particularly mind. Thanks KC!
Once the summer season kicks in full gear and this patio is ready to rock and roll (with live music) I'll have to stop by. How can you go wrong with drinks, music, sun n' fun?
