Restaurant Review of Box Car Billy's in Green Bay, WI

I went to dine at Box Car Billy's restaurant which is located in Howard on the far west side of Green Bay. It is a unique restaurant made up of colorful real train box cars which actually sit on railroad tracks, with an addition built on the front section of the restaurant. As you walk in centered in the middle of the room there is a very large round bar with flat screen TVs situated above in the corners, arcade game machines, and a few tables. It is a very casual family style restaurant. The dining areas are all privately sectioned off around the restaurant in the box cars. The dining cars are all paneled with light colored knotty pine with comfy booths which are situated closely to one another. Box Car Billy's flooring is well-worn indoor outdoor carpeting. Above each booth are frosted sconce lights and on the ceilings they have track lights so the restaurant is very well lit.
Numbers are etched in the wood above each booth; my booth was numbered 3-3. Each booth is set with maroon paper place mates, a bottle of ketchup, a bowl of margarine, butter patties, salt and pepper shakers, and sugar packets.
As I walked in there was a hostess stand to my left and the hostess greeted me in a friendly manner and sat me at a booth with a menu. My server soon came and was also very friendly and brought me a glass of ice water. I decided to order their Walleye for $15.95. The Walleye has the option of blackened or pan fried, I chose the pan fried preparation method. Included with the dinner was a choice of juice or a cup of soup (creamed cauliflower and broccoli or French onion), I chose the creamed cauliflower soup. The dinner also came with a choice of baked potato, French fries, baby reds, or the vegetable of the day. A dinner salad or Caesar salad was also included, I chose the dinner salad.
I was brought a basket of white dinner rolls with my soup. The rolls were average tasting and the soup was very thickly puréed with bits of broccoli. It was very satisfying and tasty. Next came my dinner salad which was served on a plate with ranch dressing on the side, it consisted mainly of iceberg lettuce with a few pieces of dark greens and a few slices of tomatoes and mushrooms. It was very fresh. The Walleye consisted of two large fillets and were beautifully pan fried to a toasty golden brown served with melted butter and a nice portion of sautéed vegetables of green beans, julienned yellow zucchini, and carrots with pieces of red pepper. The Walleye was delicious. It was moist on the inside with a very savory flavor, the vegetable were sautéed to a nice medium crunchy texture with a peppery burst of flavor. Box Car Billy's has a different layout with good service and very good food.
