Bar Review of 614 George Street in De Pere, WI

It was a somewhat early evening Wednesday and a friend of mine and I had 20 minutes to spare before we had to be somewhere. Vague much? Why, yes I am. My partner in crime and I both know 20 minutes totally gives you enough time for a quick drink. We ran as fast as our little legs could go all the way to 614 George Street.
Let me start off by saying this: 20 minutes does not give you enough time to fully enjoy what George Street has to offer. Secondly, we ended up staying longer than my intended 20 minutes, but it was soooo worth it.
614 George Street is located on the East side of De Pere just off of, well you can probably guess, George Street. When you first walk in you can go left or right. To the left is more of the dining side while the right side is the bar part. However, I was informed that there is a full bar on both sides, so drinkers sit where you’re most comfortable and relax.
The restaurant part is large in size with exposed brick, dark red walls and hardwood floors. There are tables, booths and a few couches. The menu offers delicious appys and burgers to more complex entrees. As for the bar side, it’s smaller in size but has the same charm as the dining room. George Street does a great job to encompass an intimate setting along with a lively atmosphere. The bar was pretty full with almost every bar stool occupied. Though, there are plenty of other spots to sit. There are hi-top tables and a bar/railing against the long back wall with even more seats. Something I should point out is the stools. Stools make them seem like hard
wooden chairs. Hardly. As my friend put it, “Now these are dentist chairs I don’t mind sitting in.” And he was right. These bad boys are quite cushy and comfy. After I made a mental note to find out his dentist we ordered our drinks: Vodka soda water for me and a Captain and Diet for him. But then we noticed the large liquor display and decided to indulge. We also ordered 2 shots of Jamo. So 2 tall, strong drinks and 2 shots run you $16.75. Nice. If you’re in the mood for beer, you’re in luck; on draught they carry Guinness, Coors Light, Leinie’s Honey and Seasonal, Miller Lite, Bud Light, Fat Tire and something else. I think it’s a Capital beer, but I can’t commit to that answer. In bottles they carry more of the Miller, Bud and Coors products that you know and love. (At least I love.) George Street also serves a variety of wines, reds and whites. The bartender that served us was the owner and she was super nice. I noticed that she made small talk with just about everyone there, which I think is cool. I could tell you that George Street was busy solely for their Trivia Night but that would be a lie. (Trivia is every Wednesday, starts around 8ish and was in their dining room part.) The bar was full because it just was. There were people there talking, people watching, drinking, cheers-ing to a winning sport season (with trophy in hand) and yes, playing trivia. 614 George Street must be doing more than a few things right. Everyone was simply in chill-mode and having a good time. I’ll definitely be back and with way more than a small window of time available.
Oh, and I apologize for the lack of pics. Would you believe I’m trying to add some mystery to what George Street is? No? Damn. It was busy and really hard to get some without loads of people in them. So if you want to know what this place looks like, go there and see for yourself!
